A man of little principle

Quite a funny story here - a Labour foot soldier gets forced into a humiliating apology after an anti-royal outburst. In response to tory MP Andrew Rosindale's call for a holiday in 2012 for ERII's Diamond Jubilee, prospective labour councillor Peter White wrote:

'What is the point of celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of someone who is born into a position of privilege? She is a parasite and milks this country for everything she can. She has more front than Margate asking for extra money from the civil list. Maybe she should sell a couple of her properties. Maybe if she wants Buckingham Palace to maintained from public funds she should open it to the public. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a public holiday but let's have one that means something, rather than celebrating vermin....'

The first part - fine, if one is a rabid socialist. The second - pathetic as one should never have said it if it needs an apology later.

I just find it funny how he sacrifices his true opinions to his party. Personally I am a republican, but I hope I can build a better case than this fellow. It's got little to do with a personal animosity towards the Queen, more a deep, philosophical loathing of the institution.

As for nationalists, no doubt some who describe themselves thus are a little vile.

I am a nationalist myself, and usually have to explain what I mean by the term. This is mainly because nationalism has been systematically vilified for the best part of 100 years. It is the one power that can resist the international corporate gangster oligarchy, hence their desire to destroy it.
