Dredging up Dickensian horrors of child labor, the Obama administration has ordered the Labor Department to apply child labor laws to family farms. The new rules would make it illegal for children to perform a large number of labor tasks that have been performed by farm families for centuries. Traditionally, adults and children alike helped with planting and harvesting in the spring and fall, but the federal government is now determined not only to make this a historical footnote, but a criminal offense.

Under the rules, children under 18 would be prevented by the federal government from working “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials” and prohibited “places of employment would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.”

In addition to making it far more difficult for families to work their farms, the new rules will revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA and replace them with a 90-hour federal government training course, the Daily Caller reports.

In other words, the federal government will forcibly insert itself in the business of teaching animal husbandry and crop management, disciplines traditionally passed on by families and local communities.

Government apparatchiks will now oversee the business of local farming the same way Stalin did when he collectivized farms and “socialized” production at gunpoint in the Soviet Union. Resistance by farmers and peasants to Stalin’s efforts resulted in the government cutting off food rations, which resulted in widespread famine (the “terror-famine in Ukraine” killed around 12 million people) and millions were sent to forced labor camps.

The Labor Department’s effort to further erode the family farm falls on the heels of an unconstitutional executive order Obama issued last year establishing so-called rural councils.

After a certain point, it’s not paranoia.

The latest brick in the wall is the predictably named “Moving Ahead For Progress in the 21st Century Act,” also known as Senate Bill 1813. (See here for the full text of the bill itself; the relevant section is 31406.) This legislation – already passed by the Senate and likely to be passed by the House – will impose a legal requirement that all new cars made beginning with the 2015 models be fitted with so-called Event Data Recorders (EDRs). These are the “black boxes” you may have read about that store data about how you drive – including whether you wear a seat belt and how fast you drive – ostensibly for purposes of post-accident investigation.

These EDRs are not new. GM and other automakers have been installing them in new cars for years – in GM’s case, since the late 1990s. What’s new is the proposed federal mandate, which would make it illegal to not have one – or (in all likelihood) to remove or disable one in a car required to have the device.

The question arises: why?

Several possibilities come to mind:

First, the EDRs could – and almost certainly will be – tied into your vehicle’s GPS. (Most new and late model cars, conveniently, already have this, too.) Then data about your driving can be transmitted – as well as recorded. To whom? Your insurance company, of course. Progressive Insurance already has such a system in place – voluntary, for the moment. (See here for more on that.)

When EDRs are mandated, you will no longer have a choice.

We’ll be told it’s all for the sake of (groan) “safety” – just like the old 55 MPH highway speed limit and every radar trap in the country. Of course, it’s really for the sake of revenue – the government’s and the insurance company’s. Your rates will be “adjusted” in real time, for every incident of “speeding” or not buckling up. It’ll be so much more efficient than using cops to issue tickets. After all, so many fishes escape! With an EDR in every car, no one will escape. Your “adjusted” premium will be waiting for you when you get home.

Sean Gabb versus the latest police state power grab

Sean Gabb of the Libertarian Alliance, in dispute with Lord Carlisle (some kind of establishment flunky) over the latest Big Brother Surveillance Bill:

1. Every year or so in England, a new "anti-terrorism" law is made. Every time, we are told how this is absolutely needed to protect our way of life, and that it will be used only against terrorists and other very bad people. Every one of these laws is mostly used against ordinary people. The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, for example, is largely used by local authority snoops to see if people are following the recycling rules or living where they claim to live for school allocation purposes. The American extradition treaty is mostly used to deport men who have broken no law in this country to stand trial in some of the most corrupt and depraved jurisdictions in the common law world. There is no doubt this law would be used to enable persecutions of men who are, by no stretch of the imagination, terrorists.
2. The police state that has been built up in England is almost uniquely incompetent. Any data about our communications aquired by the British State would certainly be put on unencrypted memory sticks and left on railway trains, or stolen by or sold to organised crime gangs and foreign security services. All promises of confidentiality should be regarded with the contempt they deserve.
3. We are already living in a state of "anarcho-tyranny." Criminals who should be caught and locked away are kept out of prison, or undeported, in the name of human rights, and are given lavish financial support at our expense. The rest of us get taxed and regulated and spied on, and generally treated like the slaves of an absolute and arbitrary police state.
4. We are told this new law is needed in a year that will see both the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth the Useless and the Olympic Games. Since the law will need to go through Commons and Lords, it cannot be ready in time. The stated excuse for the law must be a lie.
5. In general, we are told that our masters need a police state so they can fight the "War on Terror." Really, they need the War on Terror as an excuse for the police state that have wanted since at least the 1970s.
   

Spot the glaring error

Via Sunny at Liberal Conspiracy, we travel back in time, to when the tories were in opposition and fighting valiantly for our civil liberties: This from the intro to a pamphlet by Tory MP Dominic Grieve titled 'Reversing the Rise of the Surveillance State':

New Labour has excessively relied on mammoth databases and wide powers of data-sharing, on the pretext that it will make government more effective and the citizen more secure. Its track record demonstrates the opposite, with intrusive and expensive databases gathering masses of our personal information – but handled so recklessly that we are exposed to greater risk.

A Conservative government will take a fundamentally different approach. We believe that your personal information belongs to you, not the state.

Oops! Someone should have proof-read that last line before sending it to the printers. It should of course read; "We believe that your personal information belongs to the state, not you."

East German style control grid forges ahead under Lib/Tory government

I had no expectations that kicking out the puppet with the red rosette and putting in the puppet with the blue rosette would change the agenda of the Whitehall branch of the Brussels division of the New World Order tyrannical government.

So I'm not surprised to learn that the puppets are announcing a police database which will be used to store information on innocent and guilty alike. I suppose they'll claim it's something to do with protecting the public from criminals, but obviously not the criminals who operate within the state, who now have another tool at their disposal, and obviously not the criminals the Justice Secretary Ken Clarke is so keen to release, no matter how dangerous they may be.

The two policies seem incongruous, until you realise the plan is to turn the whole country into an open prison, where we can all be monitored and surveilled, which has the benefits of stifling dissent and enabling the state to prey upon us with a thousand petty tyrannies.

That infernal census

More information is being made known about the forthcoming census, including the first question which is thus:

Q1: Are you:
	A) A slave
	B) A free man or woman

If you answered B, take the census form and throw it in the bin. You don't have to complete it. Only slaves have to complete it.

There's dumb, there's dumber and then there's Gatwick Airport Security

It is easy to dismiss the story of a woman prevented from taking a three-inch plastic gun attached to a model soldier onto a plane as an indication of the rampant stupidity of airport security goons, but it's more distasteful than that. It certainly shows a complete lack of common sense, but also an authoritarian mentality and a worship of rules which is sadly very prevalent in this country.

Her Majesty's Opposition

It's good to see a little press attention to the infiltration of activist groups by police and intelligence services. It's clearly the case that such people are playing the role of agents provocateurs, and anyone getting involved with politics needs to be aware that if someone within your group or circle is calling for radical action, it could easily be a secret policeman.

The extent to which the paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland were riddled with agents is something the state would rather keep veiled. There are accusations that the Omagh bombing was allowed to go ahead, to protect an agent. The state always acts for the 'greater good', and the 'greater good' is always that which serves to protect and augment the state's illegitimate power.

As a member of a minor party (the Libertarian Party) it is something I keep in mind.

Fausty covers it for me: water fluoridation news

Fausty's blog flags up a CNN report:

"The federal government is recommending changing the amount of fluoride in drinking water for the first time in 50 years."

The report naturally spins away at the mythical benefits, and nary a mention of increases to bone cancer and other ailments linked to the extreme toxicity of the chemical additives used under the banner of 'fluoridation', and the impossibility of regulating the doses people receive when drinking and washing themselves in such water. Notwithstanding such seemingly positive news, the struggle against the insane policy of mass medication through the water supply must continue until victory.

Eco-Fascists call for prison cities

Holy shit! The headline is no exaggeration. Just watch this and start stock-piling ammo. This is even worse than 10:10's murder-fest.

False dichotomies, false presuppositions

We live in an era which has seen an enormous growth of the state. This was foreseen by the more prescient observers; Herbert Spencer, to name but one, whose book 'The Man versus The State' laid it all out, but his role was that of Cassandra. His warnings were not heeded, and 100 years of metastasising state power has erased in the minds of many the very notion that things could be different, of what freedom once meant, of the responsibilities and blessings that came from it.

Thus we arrive at this execrable document from the new government (new like a coat of fresh paint on the walls of a prison cell) 'Applying Behavioural Insight to Health', wherein we learn:

“There has been the assumption that central government can only change people’s behaviour through rules and regulations. Our government will be a much smarter one, shunning the bureaucratic levers of the past and finding intelligent ways to encourage, support and enable people to make better choices for themselves.”
Coalition Commitment, May 2010

Or, to paraphrase: A naked iron fist is not the only way. Sometimes it is better for the fist to wear a velvet glove. It continues:

Many of today’s most important policy issues have a strong behavioural component. From crime and anti-social behaviour, to education and health – our behaviours as citizens, parents and neighbours significantly affect the quality of our lives and that of others.

The Government can influence people’s behaviour in a number of different ways. Tough laws could be implemented, with fines for those who fail to comply with new legislation, and bans could be introduced that prevent people from eating certain types of food or engaging in particular types of activities.

But, as this paper shows, there are many options between bans and doing nothing – the false choice implied by some commentators. We can give citizens more or better information. We can prompt people to make choices that are in line with their underlying motivations. And we can help to encourage social norms around healthier behaviours[.]

This is a discourse between those that believe state power should be used to control us through violence, and those that say, hold on, we can get better results through more subtle forms of coercion. It is a discourse between those that favour 1984 and those that see Brave New World as the model. It is a discourse between socialism and interventionism.

Nowhere will you find any doubt expressed that the state has a right to impose its will on society, that is taken for granted. Everywhere you find the melding together of state and society. The first person plural is used with no distinction between the two. So you find; "our behaviours as citizens, parents and neighbours"; next paragraph you find; "We can give citizens more or better information". Blending these two sentences together reveals the absurdity. Next up comes the claim; "We can prompt people to make choices that are in line with their underlying motivations." What omniscience they claim!

The final defences of individual liberty are now invested with siege works. Everything material we once owned they already claim. Now they are coming for what's left. If they prevail, even to raise a quizzical eyebrow without first gaining permission will mark you out for further processing. Everything within the State. Nothing outside the State. Nothing against the State - that is the slogan they march below.

Meet the new nanny

This has been well-covered by my fellow bloggers, but I can't let this quote pass without my own Agincourt salute to Ed Vaizey:

I think it is very important that the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) come up with solutions to protect children.

'I am hoping they will get their acts together so we don't have to legislate, but we are keeping an eye on the situation and we will have a new communications bill in the next couple of years.'

Hmm, what a soft, velvety glove Mr Vaizey wears. See how delicately he caresses the throat of the ISPs. The aim, I imagine, is to ensure a default block on everything, until it has been approved by the state.

As usual, the assault on free speech comes via pornography with, no doubt 'extremism' following behind, a term vague enough to target any kind of anti-government comment, or any kind of information that the state does not wish us to know, such as information revealing the crimes their operatives commit, and the lies they tell us.

Oh sorry, what I meant to say is 'I FUCKING LOATHE AND DETEST THE EU'. I misspoke, as a politician would say, like when they told us it was a free trade area, with no transfer of sovereignty, or when they said the last treaty was 'a tidying-up exercise'. Or maybe on that occasion I misheard, and what was actually said was that they were tidying up all that was left of our independence into a bin liner and dumping it in a skip.

By the way, the guys above are from the European Gendarmerie Force, who will soon be empowered to come into your home, steal your property, rape your children and shoot you in the head. 'Diplomatic immunity? That'll do nicely'.

Food freedom and SWAT teams

I had been meaning to raise this issue, as I've heard there's a bill going through Congress (S.510) that will dramatically increase the government attacks on food freedom, meaning that making your own jam could now lead to gun-toting goon squads kicking down your door, shooting your dogs and destroying your home. Something is seriously fucked up in America, but with the case of the TSA thinking it can sexually assault air passengers and the public saying 'hell no!' we have to hope that Americans are finally waking up. (Special kudos to Ron Paul for mentioning Chertoff's link to the naked body scanner deal).

Writing your own warrants, now? That kind of shit starts revolutions

As our freedom-loving cousins across the Atlantic can tell us, soldiers with the power to write their own warrants in persuance of the Stamp Act was one of the provocations that led to the American Revolution. Now, a similar power is being claimed by police, shutting down the Fitwatch website. According to the Graun:

The letter [to the ISP] stated that authority to close "the website and IP address" had been given by Will Hodgeson, an acting detective inspector at C011.

Right... so not from any kind of magistrate or court? Worse than that, the letter stated:

"The website is providing explicit advice to offenders following a major demonstration in central London.

"The demonstration was marred by violence and several subjects have already been arrested, with a major police operation under way to identify and arrest further offenders."

That's right; "offenders" - not suspects. Oh, for those halcyon days, when you could be caught dismembering a corpse and the police would say no more than you were 'helping them with their enquiries'.

The comment of a man discussing how his eight-year-old son had his genitals groped by a security worker at a US airport (page 2 of article), but there is a growing backlash from pilots, flight staff and passengers to the outrageous behaviour of TSA, egged on by Shrek's sister Janet Napolitano, head of DHS.

A pointless exercise? Or is the point to condition a nation to servitude and humiliation?

The travel industry are also about to blow a fuse, due to the woeful effect all this gestapo shit is having on business, because, unsurprisingly people don't like being forced into a deathray machine, whilst security goons drool over images of their naked bodies, or alternatively being sexually assaulted.

Come on America, you're not gonna take this, are you? Let me remind you of a few choice words from your fourth President, James Madison:

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

A sleeper awakes

S. Paul Forrest writes an excellent article showing his awakening to just how bad Obama's 'healthcare' Act is. He did what no one in the House did before they voted it into law - he actually read it.

As the media circus grew around this legislation, and accusatory fingers pointed toward both sides of the aisle, it seemed that no one had actually read the Bill. This became clear when Nancy Pelosi, the Leader of the Left, made the statement: "Congress has to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it, away from the fog of controversy." She was advocating the passing of this Economic Giant of a Bill without even taking the time to read it. This was my first realization that something was very wrong beneath the streets of Obama Land...

After digesting the complexities of this Bill and after some serious self-reflection and swallowing of my Liberal pride, I came to a disturbing conclusion: The Republicans were right...

The recent Bills and Executive Orders being implemented in the after-hours workings of the Obama Regime are all interconnected, purposeful moves to control the “health” of the population. Our entire food system, and thus our health choices, are being decided without public knowledge in a land called Democratic; our vote has not been counted. Unbeknownst to most Americans, H.R. 3590 specifically requires a committee to list the priorities for "lifestyle behavior modification" that the government will pursue. This translates into control of our choices of diet. Is this what Liberals were thinking of when we all together stood symbolically with Obama to bring Health Care to America? Is this what we foresaw as the solution to our collective Health Care dilemma? Control over choices?

Conspiracy theorists in many ways resemble the Sawney Bean family. Don't be like them!

Yes!', because round here, we know the government, indeed everyone in the state from the lowliest postie to our most exalted Ministers, all love us, and want only the best for us. Their wisdom may not be perfect or infallible, but it's close enough! Right, everyone?

If, however, you have answered 'no' to any of these questions, I'm afraid I must ask you to turn yourself into the authorities immediately. You are an extremist, if not already a terrorist then likely to become one in the future. You are probably insane, and certainly a danger to yourself and others. Please, for pity's sake, go directly to the police and demand to be incarcerated and lobotomised. Do not speak to anyone, you may contaminate them too. If you know of anyone else who would answer 'no', denounce them.

For the rest of us, we must be vigilant. Conspiracy theorists are all around, spreading lies, the poison of distrust. Take steps to protect your loving state. If you meet anyone asking questions, ridicule them. Don't be ensnared by their 'evidence' - it will be lies. If you have any history books, burn them, take no chances. Most importantly, try not to think. The government doesn't need you to think, only obey and believe.
