Brand New Retro ...

... at least to me. I heard this on the radio yesterday; Tony Christie - 'Avenues and Alleyways'. I don't know where it's been hiding all these years. The video's cool, mining the same seam as the Beastie Boys 'Sabotage', which I'm just about old enough to remember in its original format.

This was the theme from the 70's series "The Protectors" starring Robert Vaughan, Nyree Dawn Porter (described by Kenneth More as "three of Britain's worst actresses")and Tony Anholt. The two last are both now deceased. (Robert Vaughan seems to be a survivor--he is also the only one of the Magnificant Seven still alive)

I have thought for some time that last piece of this song would be a great signature tune for a blog about Britain's corrupt councils

"In the Avenues and Allyways,
Where the soul of a man is easy
to buy,
Everbody's whealin,Everbody's
stealin,
All the low are livin high,
Every city's got 'em,
Can we ever stop 'em,
Some of us are gonna try."
