Hazlitt on the European scene; 1951

Looking around for footage of the distinguished Libertarian writer Henry Hazlitt, I came across this interview with him from 1951, in which he discusses the forthcoming British election, which is quite revealing, 'Plus ca change', being the operative term.

That's a very good find TT. I don't think we've moved on in terms of debate since then.

'We'll administer this socialism better because we don't believe in it.' That could have been said by Cameron.

YouTube can be a treasure trove sometimes. I found this last week - Marcuse discussing the Frankfurt School. It isn't a programme the BBC would broadcast these days. These days what passes for debate is a very dumbed-down QT or Andrew Marr.

Here's the link to the Marcuse i/view. It's a four-parter in which he ultimately distances himself from many aspects of marxism and gives his reasons:

What you say is true. You can find a lot of discussions from television from the 50s and 60s which seem of a higher intellectual quality, presumably for a less dumbed down audience.

A fitting wordver for such ideas, considering how they have spread.
