From the Independent:
Don't hold your breath waiting for the cheerleaders for bombing Libya to manifest any desire to address the bloody mess they have unleashed, and don't expect any remorse or sense of culpability from the Nato warmongers if or when any of those thousands of SAMs now presumed to be in the hands of the salafists end up getting used. Instead, it's a case of 'onwards and upwards' to Syria and Iran.
Thousands of people, including women and children, are being illegally detained by rebel militias in Libya, according to a report by the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Many of the prisoners are suffering torture and systematic mistreatment while being held in private jails outside the control of the country's new government.Read the article here.

Totally agree.
These ongoing events appear to be perpetually invisible to everyone who was a cheerleader for the intervention, and in fact are precisely the kinds of abhorrent acts that were used as a pretext for intervention in the first place.
Ghastly and all too predictable if anyone cared to think (so not my MP obviously). After any revolution there is always revenge blood letting then a nasty power struggle. The immediate post-shah period in Iran is instructive when it was touch and go whether the hard-line ayatollahs, the liberal islamists or the commies took over.
We know how that played out.
I have entirely given up on the MP as all you ever get is ignored letters and general but irrelevant statements of policy. And the silence of the TV media on this one is utterly shameful, and another reason not to bother with UK TV.
Another great post of I may say so.
Katabasis,
I'm sure yesterday's chicken hawks are soberly urging restraint on all sides, between negotiations over construction contracts.
SA,
thank you for the compliment. In the case of Libya, I think we've had a textbook version of a propaganda war, and now it's all gone silent because the aim - Gaddafi's head on a platter - has been achieved. Meanwhile, I'm wondering where all those tonnes of gold went?
