Take a trip through Ron Paul's past, and see for yourself how consistent he has been in advocating freedom, prosperity and peace.
I could post clips all day, but here's another great speech from Dr Paul.
"I am by birth a free Commoner of England, and am thereby intailed or intituled unto an equall priviledge with your selfe, or the greatest men in England, unto the freedome and liberty of the Lawes of England." William Thompson, 14. of December, 1647

Yeah, and you could go even further back and still find that he's consistent. I get the impression he formed his ideas at a much younger age and having never found a reason or heard an argument to change them he's stuck with them all this time, whether they're popular or not. As a politician that makes him practically unique.
I dare say his political views are deeply rooted. It was Nixon's gold default in 1971 which propelled him into politics, as I understand it.
