Yeah, and you could go even further back and still find that he's consistent. I get the impression he formed his ideas at a much younger age and having never found a reason or heard an argument to change them he's stuck with them all this time, whether they're popular or not. As a politician that makes him practically unique.
I dare say his political views are deeply rooted. It was Nixon's gold default in 1971 which propelled him into politics, as I understand it.
